Restaurant Take Out Tips and Tricks
Have you ever ordered take out from a BYOB restaurant you like only to have the restaurant screw up your order? Based on an informal polling of BYOBguide.com users, apparently the answer is yes. I know we have had a less than 100% success rate on take out from restaurant, and this is true even from restaurants we know to have good food ands service. To try and help improve ours and your take out experience, we conducted some research and found some useful guidelines to follow when ordering take out. Our list is short and concise and should help guarantee a successful take out experience.
1. Be sure the restaurant is still offering that entree your love. When ordering off a menu you have at home, be sure to confirm with the restaurant that the menu is still valid. Some restaurants frequently change their menus, so even though you consider the three-month old menu in your possession up to date, the restaurant may not.
2. After you place your order, ask the server to repeat the order back, just to make sure everyone is on the same page.
3. When asked for a name to put the order under use your first name and the first letter of your last name, i.e., Mary T. You will be surprised how many mistakes this will avoid. Don’t forget to have the server repeat your name as well. We recently ordered take out and apparently two Dave’s had placed orders at approximately the same time.
4. Whatever the time frame they give for pickup, shave five minutes off and show up early. Better to wait for hot food then to arrive late and bring home cold soggy dishes.
5. Since the food will be in a bag or box when you pick up the food, be sure to get an itemized list of your order and if time permits, go through the receipt and the bag to ensure you are picking up your complete order. This will save you from missing a soup or salad that can easily not find its way into the take out bag.
