Q
What wine with Sushi?
I actually like beer and sushi, but if you want a wine suggestion, try a California or Oregon Pinot Noir. I have always liked Calera and King Estate as producers of tasty Pinot Noir, but feel free to go with a winery you know or one you want to try. You should also try French Champagne or a sparkling wine, they go very well with sushi and you probable don’t get enough sparkling wine anyway.

Q
What wine with Thai food?
Spicy food such as Thai requires a wine that won't be over powered by the spice of the food. Zinfandel and Syrah are good stand by wines for Thai. But your best bet is the wine you like, if you don't like either of those wines, try one's that you do.

Q
What wine goes good with pasta with a red sauce and one with a alfredo sauce?
Aside from giving you a general answer such as, whatever you like, the standard red wine and red pasta sauce pairings are Chianti’s (i.e., Chianti, Chanti Classico and Reserva), a Zinfandel (red only, please) or Cabernet Sauvignon. If you go for a Cabernet, go for one with a bit of Merlot grape in it, this will let you drink a younger (inexpensive) wine that will be ready to drink off the shelf right now. FYI, California is bursting with these type of wines right now and a good one doesn’t have to cost more than $15.00. For a white wine with red sauce pairing, try a Pinot Grigio. Now white sauces, such as some buttery sauces can go really well with a buttery wine, such as a California Chardonnay. If the sauce is more cream based, then a Chanti would go well for a red wine choice. White wine choices can include Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling. All of these white wine can also be had for less than $15.00 a bottle, with good quality.

Q
What pairs best with pizza.
Pizza goes well with most light red wines such as Sangiovese, Merlot and Chiant. It can also go well with bolder reds such as Cabernet Sauvignon or white wines such as Pinot Gris or Chardonnay. And just so people don't think I am so biased toward wine, cold beer can real well also.

Q
I'm pretty partial to sweet wines, but most of my friends aren't. Since we always disagree on what wines to bring to an italian restaurant, can you help us find a middle ground?
Without directing you to a specific wine label, you may want to consider bringing a half bottle for yourself and let your friends bring their own. You could also bring a full bottle for yourself which provides the option of letting your friends try the wine and expand their horizons. This is a trick I use alot, since some of my friend avoid white wines. If that isn't helpful and sweet is an issue I would direct you to German wines which can be on the sweet side. Hit your local wine shop and ask them for a few wines that are on the light sweet side, this should give you a good starting point.
