Dom Perignon Questions
Q
I have an unopened bottle of 1990 Rose Dom Perignon which has been stored in a box in my basement. Is this still drinkable ?
You don't say if your basement is finished or not, hot or cold, but I am assuming it is an unfinished basement with temperature changes throughout the year. With that said, the 1990 bottle of Dom Perignon is probable still good. Find a reason to drink it.

Q
i have a bottle of dom perignon 1985 it is still in the box but was never refridgerated is it ok to drink
Dare I ask where you stored it? I would say that you can drink it, but it most likely will not be as good than if you had stored it properly.

Q
do i need to keep dom perignon in the fridge
Only if you are preparing to drink the wine soon. Otherwise store the Dom is a cool dark place.

Q
I'd like to buy a gift and I don't know what to choose for: Cristal or Dom Perignon. Please help! Thanks!
My advice between gifting a bottle of Dom Perignon or Cristal, would be neither. In my experience and in the amount of emails I get regarding how much is my bottle of Dom worth that someone gave me, do not buy these wines as a gift. It appears most all people never drink these wines and instead save them for a special day that never comes. If your budget fits the bill for one bottle of either, I say change your approach and buy a mixed case of wine instead. I commonly give cases of wine as gifts. I have never been disappointed with the response I get back. The case allows the gift to last much longer, and you might get a chance to be invited to share a bottle.

Q
I have a bottle with the following label. MOET et CHANDON a Empernay - Champagne - Cuvee Dom Perignon - Vintage 1982 It was in the basement of the house that I purchased in 1991 and is kept there since on its side and temperature was always cool. How much is it worth and is it still drinkable?
Wow, a 1982 bottle of Dom, pretty nice find in your basement. It concerns me that you found the wine in 1991 so you cannot attest to the storage of the wine before that date. If the wine was properly stored, you have a bottle worth several hundred dollars. But don't try to sell it, you are not licensed to do so. Open the bottle and enjoy your find.

Q
I have a bottle of 1988 Dom. Will it increase in value at this point or should I drink it or sell it?
Drink it with some friends, that bottle of 88 Dom will be and should be enjoyed by you. I am sure it was purchased for you to enjoy not to sell.

Q
I recently received two bottles of Dom from 1988 & 1990. They were stored perfectly, but my friend had them refrigetated for the past two months. Should I keep them in the fridge, store them somewhere else, or should they be opened immediately?
The simple answer is that you can do either with your two bottles of Dom Perignon. I say this because in my experience wine is a lot sturdier that people give it credit for, including wine merchants and wine professionals. My advice would be to get together with friends and do a vertical tasting of the two bottles, which I think would make a really fun night. Of course you can pull the bottles out of the refrigerator and store them in a cellar. The problem with that is that I find that too often people never drink their Dom Perignon, they just hold onto it, which goes totally contrary to even owing wine, since wine is meant to be enjoyed. Pop the corks and drop us a line and let me know how it works out, I have no doubt it will be a great wine experience.

Q
How will I be able to tell if my Dom perigon is drinkable?
The only true test for sparkling wine is to drink it and to have an extra bottle at the ready, just in case it went bad. Please note that Dom Perignon is a very high quality sparkling wine. I would doubt that it is bad unless it has been stored improperly.

Q
I have a bottle of Dom Perignon- 1993. I want to drink it on Jan. 21 for my parents 60th wedding anniversary. Is it still good. It has been stored in a cabinet at varying temperatures.
Proper storage is critical for aging wine. I am assuming the cabinet was dark and varying temperatures don't mean freezing and heat wave conditions. With that taken into consideration, Dom Perignon is of such quality, that less than optimal storage may cause the wine to lose some of the taste nuances, which most people cannot detect anyway, but should be drinking fine.

Q
We recently bought a house and found a Cuvee Dom Perignon Vintage 1995 in the back of a cabinet. I can only assume that it has been stored in a dark cabinet since purchase or gift. What is the value of this bottle? Should we chill it like a bottle of white wine prior to drinking? How long can we save it?
I would value the bottle around $200.00 and $250.00 if it was stored properly, but we cannot attest to that. Chill it in the refrigerator for about 2 hours and remove it from the refrigerator about 15 minutes before you plan to open it. I would not store the wine any longer, since you cannot vouch for the storage of the wine. Drink up and toast your new house.

Q
is a 1998 vintage dom perignon a good year
I have had Dom Perignon 1998 many times, as it is the current vintage and I would say it was very good. Please note they don't make Dom Perignon in bad years.

Q
I know nothing about wine but a business associate gave me a bottle of Moet Chandon Dom Perignon 1996. I don't plan on drinking it, will it increase in value?
Vintage wines especially Dom Perignon will appreciate in value, but the point is mute as it would be extremely difficult for you to sell an individual bottle of wine, if not illegal without a license depending on where you live.

Q
What temperature is Dom Perion best stored at, in preparation for drinking within a day or a week?

Q
Hi there, I have a bottle of 1990 Vintage Dom Perignon. I have had it in a wine fridge(cellar) , laying horizontal in its box at a constant temperature of around 13 degree Celsius. Would this be ok to store it?
Sounds very good for storage, but I would drink the wine soon as I do not have much faith in very long term storage of sparkling wine. By long term, I mean greater than 15 years.

Q
dom perignon pairing
Dom Perignon Champagne has some rare tasting characteristics (hey you do get something for the money), that allows the Champagne to be a stand alone wine. Meaning food pairing is not necessary. You see the enjoyment of some wines can be enhanced with food. Dom Perignon, in my experience is best shared with friends outside of a meal. A classic food and Champagne pairing is sushi.

Q
I just bought a bottle of 1996 Vintage Dom, what is the maximum time I can age it for?
Stored properly, 10 to twenty years. But Dom Perignon is such an excellent sparkling wine, why not enjoy it now?

Q
I have just been given a bottle of 98, should I store it standing or lying on its side?
Always store wine "lying on its side".

Q
Someone told me that they can get Dom Perignon for $35.00 online, is this true? If so, is it imitation wine?
$35.00 is an unbelievably low price for a bottle of Dom Perignon and I can't imagine that it would be authentic. Please note that the company that makes Dom Perignon makes other sparkling wine that could be had for $35.00 on and off line. Don't buy what your friend is selling.

Q
about 15 years ago, we were given a bottle of dom perion dated 1980. it has been stored on its side in a cool dark shelf all of this time. How long does it stay drinkable. we have a very special occassion coming up and want to toast it with this particular bottle. Will it still be drinkable????
I think you have an excellent chance that the wine is going to be very good, as long as your storage conditions were as you say. I have had bottles of Dom Perignon from the 1970's that were very good today. So the ability of the wine to age is fairly extensive. Enjoy the wine.

Q
should dom be stored on its side
Dom Perignon, like any wine should be stored on its side, in a cool environment (56 degrees) is ideal and out of the light.

Q
I have a bottle of Dom Perignon that I forgot about. It has been in the back of the Liquor Cabinet for 2 years. Do I bother even opening it?
First email me your address and I will take it off your hands. Seriously, the champagne is most likely still very good. Dom Perignon can age for a number of years and get better with age. Chill it and toast your glass with some friends.

Q
I plan on purchasing a bottle of 1995 Dom, and will drink in a month at a hotel for a special occasion. How should I store it?
Dom Perignon like any fine wine should be stored in a cool dark place. The basement or the back of a closet would both work.

Q
Are you supposed to drink Dom P cold.. room temperature, what?
Dom is best served slightly chilled, not room temperature.

Q
I have a bottle of Dom Perignon never opened in the original green box. It says Vintage 1992 on the top. Is it okay to drink, how much longer can we save it... I see you mention "if stored properly" to others.... mine has never been refrigerated.. just kept in our home on a shelf... what do you think?
We get a lot of questions on if a wine is drinkable or not and the key question I have is how was it stored? On a shelf is not my first choice for storage of any wine. Dom Perignon 1992 is a good vintage and is drinking now or can holdup for a few more years. You can certainly drink it now. My other advice on drinking any wine that you may find questionable is to drink it but have a backup bottle in case the wine has turned.

Q
what is the benefit of drinking dom?
It is a classic champagne that I think anyone interested in wine should have at least once. After you have it try to find a sparkling wine that is as good for a fraction of the cost. There you go two good reasons.

Q
i have a vintage bottle of Dom Perignon that was brought for me when i was born, 1982, but the champange is older than this. Will it still be ok to drink?
Since you don't provide a date I can't say for sure, but I believe that you are at the limit of proper aging (assuming all these years the champagne has been stored properly) for the champagne. I would try to drink it soon and have a backup bottle in case it hasn't aged well. But rest assured Dom can age, there is simple a limit as to how much of an improvement you will get from continued aging.

Q
I have a 1995 bottle of dom perignon it is 2006 should i drink it now or should I hold it?
You can drink it now and enjoy it. Longer aging may improve it but only marginally and unless your taste buds are razor sharp, I don't think you would notice a discernible difference if you aged the wine.

Q
My friend just gave me a bottle of Cuvee Dom Perignon Vintage 1992 that she has kept in a liquor cabinet. Is it still ok to consume or spoiled by now?
What a nice gift, I wish I had such nice friends. I would say that it is ok to drink, but certainly would taste better if it was stored in a more appropriate location. Dom is a quality champagne and is capable of being aged. If you want to be safe, have a spare bottle of anther wine just in case the cabinet it was stored in suffered from temperature fluctuations, such as getting blasted by sunlight throughout the day.

I have a bottle of Cuvee Dom Perignon 1995. How long should I keep it before opening it for the best taste?

Q
can you recork a bottle of dom that you started drinking and finish it later?
You can try, but opened champagne will go flat within in a few hours of opening the bottle, so I do not advise it.

Q
I recently picked up a a bottle of Dom Perignon for a celebration. Are all champagnes overpriced, or just Dom Perignons? Are there more reasonably priced, and decent tasting, champagnes?
Dom Perignon is a very expensive champagne, some that it is worth it others don't. I can go either way. I like Dom but I have found other champagnes and sparkling wines to be just as good for a fraction of the price. Of course Dom is so well known, it has a certain wow factor with people that other wines find hard if not impossible to compete against. Of course wow factor doesn't do anything about the taste. If you want to experiment with better tasting sparkling wines but don't want to spend the money that Don Perignon costs, I would suggest you increase base price for what you would spend on a non Dom Perignon champagne by $20.00 or more. Also try vintage wine (the year will be noted on the bottle and no not all sparkling wine is vintage, only the best years). No doubt you will find a few sparkling wines that you like for a lot less money.

I have a half bottle of Dom can I store it and drink it later?
If you mean you have a half drank bottle, then no you can't store it. You need to drink it upon opening it otherwise it will go flat.

Q
Can I drink Dom Perignon champagne that is from 1983?
1983 was a fine year and if the wine has been stored properly, it should be very tasty. Go for it, and if you want to be safe do what I do and have a spare wine just in case.

Q
who made dom perignon?
Today it is made by the Moët et Chandon Champagne house. The monk had an early influence in making Champagne. Dom Perignon was born Pierre Perignon in 1640, and was the son of a clerk to a judge in Saint-Menehould, just outside of the Champagne region of France. Before he was twenty he had entered the Benedictine Order at the Abbey of Saint-Vannes at Verdun. Before he was 30 he was appointed the cellar master at the Abbey of Hautvillers, which is how he got into making champagne. The rest they say is history.
