BYOB Questions
Q
Is it okay to bring sparkling wine to a byob?
Sparkling wine is fine to bring to a BYOB restaurant. Just do not expect the restaurant to have champagne glasses, as in my experience most BYOB restaurants do not have them.

Q
What does BYOB stand for?
BYOB, it should stand for Bring Your Own Bottle. Restaurants that allow BYOB usually can't afford a liquor license (some licenses run up to $500,000.00 in some parts of the country) or don't want to be bothered with maintaining a wine inventory. This is a good thing for diners since the markup on wine is usually 100% or more, no joke. BYOB also gives the restaurant owner more time to focus on the food, which is why you go out to dine in the first place. It is typical that most BYOB's are on the smaller side, but others rank up there with liquored establishments, and what I mean by this is they are big, think room to cater, they have fine glassware, plates, fireplaces and food that tastes better than liquored establishments. Keep in mind that liquor sales can make up 40 to 60% of the dollar volume of a restaurant, and there is no prep time involved. They also aren't corporate owned so chances are you will meet the owner and be sure that he appreciates your business.
